Privacy and Confidentiality

Most everything you might share in therapy is 100% confidential, but there are few limits to confidentiality that the law places on mental healthcare professionals:

  • If I am aware of a child, dependent adult, or elderly person who is being abused, I have to report it.
  • If it seems like you are an immediate danger to yourself or someone else, I will have to release enough information to keep everyone safe.
  • If you are using EAP benefits or would like me to bill your out-of-network insurance plan for services, they will receive some limited information.

If I am contacted by insurance companies, workers compensation representatives, or attorneys who are asking for your information, I will neither confirm or deny that you are a client. I will then contact you as to how you’d like me to move forward.

If I receive a subpoena for your records, I will contact you before taking any action. I then consult with an attorney about any response so that your rights are protected to the best of my ability.
